Warm Wishes From the Heart (& Soul)

Imagine your favorite song. Go on—close your eyes. Where does it take you?

Is it the first dance at your wedding? The song playing on the radio during your very first road trip? Or a quiet, beautiful moment shared with someone you love?

Neuroscience shows that when we listen to music, our entire brain lights up. But anyone who has experienced a live performance knows music does far more than stimulate the mind—it awakens the body, lifts the spirit, and reconnects us to memories and emotions we may have thought were lost.

That’s why Heart & Soul has centered its mission around bringing the healing magic of live music to isolated and vulnerable communities. We believe in meeting people exactly where they are. Our performers travel to care facilities across Utah, tailoring each performance to the audience—ensuring that every resident hears songs that feel personal, familiar, and meaningful.

“Music can heal the wounds that medicine cannot touch.”
Debasish Mridha, physician & writer

The Healing Power of Music, Witnessed Firsthand

The first time I truly understood music’s healing power was during my very first performance at the Huntsman ICU. When my uncle joked that he might die of boredom, I brought my guitar and played a few songs—starting with his favorite Beatles tune. Watching the light return to his eyes was unforgettable. In that moment, I saw how music could offer comfort, presence, and something tangible to hold onto.

That experience sparked a lifelong passion: sharing music as a way to reach people when words fall short.

Joy That Lingers Long After the Music Ends

The impact of our performances is felt not only in the moment, but long after the final song.

“The music is uplifting and interactive. Spirits are lifted, and the struggles that many are going through are lessened. Then the lightheartedness lasts—sometimes for a couple of days. Residents who struggle with depression and health issues feel better physically and emotionally.”
Phil Hansen, Pine Creek Rehab

“We experience extremely warm welcomes from people living in residential care facilities. I feel like we provide an opportunity for people to just plain have fun—with us and with each other.”
Lori Shields, Heart & Soul Performer

“Often residents tell me how much they enjoy our music. I almost don’t need them to tell me—I watch their eyes light up, see them tap their feet and sing along. It’s incredibly rewarding.”
Dan Waldis, Heart & Soul Performer

Making a Lasting Impact Across Utah

Just as a song needs a melody, Heart & Soul relies on donors like you to help warm hearts and lift spirits—especially for those who may never attend a concert otherwise.

Each year, our nonprofit provides over 1,300 live performances to more than 150 care facilities across 14 counties in Utah. Nearly 350 dedicated performers generously donate their time and talent, making each performance a meaningful exchange of joy, connection, and humanity.

When the music begins, faces soften, toes tap, and smiles appear. That’s when you know the healing is happening.

Why Your Support Matters

Close your eyes once more.

Now imagine your mother, your aunt, your daughter—transported from an ordinary Wednesday into the exact moment they first heard that song. The one that changed everything. That feeling is priceless.

When we bring live music into care centers, we’re not just sharing songs—we’re restoring dignity, memory, and joy.

With full hearts, we invite you to be part of the Heart & Soul mission. You can support us by attending an event, volunteering, or making a tax-deductible donation.

Your generosity ensures that the healing power of music continues to reach those who need it most.
