Heart & Soul Singing Telegrams

What an interesting time we are living through! Historic, even. Everyone across the Wasatch Front has gone through so many changes in a short amount of time. The effect on the care communities that Heart & Soul serves and the musicians we work with has been monumental. And yet, we know that through our community of caring, Heart & Soul can be at the frontlines of relieving isolation, especially in times like these, when it’s most needed.

It Can Be Lonely Out There! What Heart & Soul is Doing to Change That

To safeguard residents, only essential personnel are allowed to enter care communities. So we’ve found a fun way to bring our isolated neighbors live music via Heart & Soul Singing Telegrams. Activity directors take a laptop or iPad around to each resident, and performers take a moment to connect, and sing a song or two to each resident, to let them know how much we care about them.

Anke Summerhill singing for residents

“I sang one or two songs with everyone who wanted to sing—so great to catch up with everyone! The big fave of the day was ‘Yellow Submarine.'” – Anke Summerhill, singing for residents at Fairview East live from her home via FaceTime.

Brian Jones with his guitar

“Brian Jones wasn’t able to come into our building to perform for us today, so instead he sent us singing telegrams as he performed from home and we streamed the FaceTime call on an iPad! Thank you Brian and Heart & Soul for sending some joy our way!” – Katherine Wright, Activity Director of Crescent Senior Living

Lezlee Monroe at the mic

“I loved being able to be one on one with the residents via tablet/video/call. I could see their smiles and their singing along with me which delighted my heart!” – Lezlee Monroe
